Neko Fakes

Neko Fakes began in 2020 as a study of the gifted and enigmatic singer-songwriter Neko Case. The band soon began to evolve beyond just the Neko covers, adding original renderings to their repertoire. This five-piece delivers a sonically-diverse, alt-country vibe that sometimes broods and sometimes rocks, but always tries to play from the heart. With Erin Hamilton’s rootsy-folk vocal stylings, backed by long-time musical collaborators Paul Farmer, Steve Hamilton and Court McRonald (Beautiful Senseless, Cardboard Nationals, Faux Manchu), and Mark Stutman of "Folkway Music" fame, Neko Fakes delivers a mix of ear-worms both earnest and compelling. 

 

Besides cutting their teeth over the past couple years in little local haunts like ANAF and WhichCraft (R.I.P.), Neko Fakes also had the honour of hitting the stage at Wellington Brewery’s 40th anniversary festival in Sept. 2025. They were invited by Kaleidoscope Music and the Downtown Guelph Business Association to be part of the Music Weekends series in Jan. 2025. Most recently, the band has emerged from Turtleshell Studio in Breslau, with 5 shiny little offerings and the hope to shape them into an EP release at Sonic Hall, set for April 18 of this year.

 

As its members continue to grow and learn together, Neko Fakes charts a course defined by serving the songs, whether they’re ballads or bruisers or some place in between. They hope to reach a wider audience of music-lovers this Summer and beyond.
